Jim GougharyBraselton, GA – Jim Goughary broke away from the pack on Saturday to finish second, and backed that effort up with a pole run during Sunday morning qualifying for the second and final F1600 race at Road Atlanta this weekend. Goughary’s Ski Motorsports Van Diemen/Honda beat out Garth Rickards by .092 seconds, with Will Harvey, Saturday winner Franklin Futrelle, and Steve Bamford following.

Futrelle takes the lead at Road AtlantaBraselton, GA – Franklin Futrelle muscled his way to the front of the field in an all-out multi-car battle at Road Atlanta to take the opening race in the 2014 F1600 Formula F Championship Series season. Futrelle marked his first F1600 win in fifth-ever start, taking the checkered under caution in his Spectrum/Honda for Raceworks. Jim Goughary dominated the race until a late restart to finish second for Ski Motorsports in a Van Diemen/Honda, while polesitter Garth Rickards completed the podium in a Mygale/Honda for Team Pelfrey in a race that saw a 12-car pack at the front.

Garth Rickards Braselton, GA – While the top five cars were separated by under a tenth of a second, it was Garth Rickards that narrowly scored pole position at Road Atlanta by .016 seconds over his team Pelfrey teammate Ayla Agren. Behind those two Mygale/Hondas were Franklin Futrelle in the Raceworks Spectrum/Honda ahead of Jim Goughary’s Van Diemen and Max Mallinen in another Spectrum/Honda for Swan Motorsports in his F1600 pro debut.

Garth RickardsBraselton, GA – Two F1600 practice sessions Friday for 25 cars at Road Atlanta were led by Series newcomers Garth Rickards, for Team Pelfrey, and Jack Mitchell, for Exclusive Autosport. While those two were at the top of the fast lap lists, the front of the field was literally under a blanket as times were ultra-close during practice for the season opening rounds at Road Atlanta.

Team Pelfrey entryBraselton, GA – Prior to the season opening rounds for F1600, F2000 and Atlantic at Road Atlanta this weekend, the three Formula Race Promotions operated open-wheel series enjoyed a full and extensive test-day at the 12-turn road course. With loads of track time on hand, teams and drivers were able to enjoy near perfect weather conditions in Georgia, with little cloud cover and temperatures in the sixties.
