Skylar Robinson was fastest on FridayWampum, PA – Skylar Robinson and Jordan Cane found themselves on the top of each practice session ahead of the F1600 Formula F Championship Series triple-header weekend taking place at the new Pittsburgh International Race Complex. Robinson had the fastest lap of the day with his morning’s 1:47.175, while Cane was quick in a slower afternoon session at 1:47.822.

Those two drivers dueled to the last lap at Mid-Ohio for a victory just a month ago, with Cane coming out first in his No. 81 Mygale/Honda. Robinson is still searching for his first F1600 win and ran well at Pittsburgh in an F2000 car in 2014, and despite being at the front of the F1600 field for most of the season, has yet to visit victory lane for K-Hill Motorsports.

Robert Megennis missed out on the top spot in practice one by just .070 seconds; and in practice two, cut the margin down to just .031 seconds behind his Pelfrey teammate Cane and their pair of Mygale/Hondas.

Robinson followed Megennis on the afternoon timesheets, and his K-Hill teammate, Austin Mack was fourth. Kyle Kirkwood rounded out the top five for Chastain Motorsports, the first of three cars entered this weekend from the Indiana-based squad.

Points leader Scott Andrews found the pace for sixth in both sessions, while teammate Thomas McGregor did not get a timed lap in the afternoon session despite being in the top-10 pace group in the morning with the ninth fastest time.

The second grouping of Pelfrey cars, Andrew Hobbs and Ben Auriemma were seventh and eighth, respectively. The top seven cars were separated by five tenths in the afternoon on the flowing 2.8-mile, 18-turn circuit.

Jim Goughary and Will Harvey completed the top ten in practice two, with Goughary the fastest Masters Class driver on Friday at Pittsburgh.

Steve Bamford followed in 11th, bouncing back after losing a wheel from his Mygale in the morning session.

It’s the opening weekend for the new Pittsburgh facility, with grand opening festivities planned, and free attendance for fans for the three-day weekend, which marks rounds 13, 14 and 15 of the 2015 21-race F1600 season. The Series will, in addition, conclude the season at Pittsburgh in mid-October.

Late entries for the weekend included JAY Motorsports and the No. 91 Spectrum/Honda for Neal Verhagen, as well as Kenneth Boquillion, and Dexter Czuba for Bjerke Motorsports.
