A packed room in OrlandoOrlando, FL – Series owners, officials, teams, drivers, sponsors and more gathered at the PRI (Performance Racing Industry) trade show in Orlando to discuss the latest developments and news regarding the F2000 Championship Series and the new F1600 Formula F Championship Series.

It was revealed as the meeting started, with more than 80 people in attendance ,that Series officials already have 36 registrations for F1600, up from the announced 31 just a few days ago.

  • Attendees were introduced to the Series owners, main officials and key sponsors, such as Hoosier Racing Tire and Honda Performance Development.
  • It was announced that Zetec restrictors will remain unchanged for 2011 in the F2000 Championship Series.
  • F1600 will have the same six-tire rule as F2000; F2000 will get a new Hoosier spec-slick, available as of March 1 from Hoosier.
  • All new chassis coming into the F2000 Series “must be SCCA legal,” according to Series officials.
  • Seen: a major newF2000 team? Stay tuned.
  • Heard: a big F1600 driver/team/chassis announcement in the near future.
  • On that note, F2000 may be as competitive as ever in 2011 with new teams, returning drivers and an assortment of new cars.
  • Seen: F2000 race winner Jonathan Scarallo, looking at his options for 2011.
  • Seen: F2000 graduate and current NASCAR Canadian Tire Series pilot Caitlin Johnston, who is planning to run the full F1600 Series schedule in 2011
  • Grapevine: Most, if not all, of the F2000 teams are expected back in 2011, and the ones that were there talking the talk: more drivers, more cars and expansion.
  • Noted: The F2000/F1600 meeting had the attendance record for race series meetings held on Friday, including various other open wheel and sports car series.
  • The F1600 Series will have a rotating championship trophy, which was unveiled in Orlando and has yet to be named.
  • A guerilla marketing contest for 2011 with an end-of-season prize?
  • Mid-Ohio will be run in that “Saturday night” short-track method with blocked track time, meaning one session after another for competitors in F2000 and F1600.
  • And there is more: Series officials are talking about race-weekend seminars,  more announcements about the shared weekend at Mid-Ohio are forthcoming, and the staff may need to learn how to park team transporters as the world may see a total of 70 cars to open 2011 at VIR.
