In Short Session Cangialosi Secures Pole!

July 28, 2019

In a session that ended under yellow, Dario Cangialosi dominated the time sheets to take his second pole position of the weekend!

Conditions here at VIR are about as ideal as one can expect for a day late in July, an easy seventy degrees and not a cloud in sight. The Atlantic drivers certainly got what will perhaps be the best conditions of the day as temperatures are expected to get into the nineties later on.

The second qualifying session of the weekend commenced and the drivers seem less eager to get rolling than they did the day before. It wasn’t until the eight minute mark that times started getting serious. Dario Cangialosi, yesterday’s pole sitter, was the first to strike. He got up to speed perhaps the fastest of the group, and that put him out front by a wide margin. Cangialosi stepped into the 1:43’s while no other driver had even found the 1:44’s.

By the twelve minute mark, Keith Grant started to find his rhythm, he stepped into the second spot and was only three tenths of a second of Cangialosi. Flinn Lazier, returning to the racing surface after mechanical issues in race one, was in third just a half second adrift of Cangialosi. At fourteen minutes the session was stopped due to a stricken car and the cars returned to the pits.

Unfortunately the track cleanup was lengthy enough that the session expired before the cars could return to the racing surface. Cangialosi’s early pace had paid off and he secured his second pole position of the weekend. Keith Grant was second, Lazier third, Rich Zober fourth, and Lee Alexander fifth. Notably, yesterday’s third place finisher, Spencer Brockman, was never able to find the pace he had in yesterday’s sessions.
